Property Details

An immaculately-presented, detached and well-equipped four bedroom period stone house built circa 1740 with garaging including studio outbuilding, workshops and outdoor dining pavilion in the heart of West Wight. Standing at the edge of a rural hamlet, with fields on all sides yet accessible to the ferries and facilities, the property is an ideal rural retreat. The house has been extensively improved by the recent owners to compliment its period style with both modern and period features and quality fittings. Outside the gardens, grounds and outbuildings provide every opportunity for country living and dining 'al-fresco'. Of particular note is the 'English Heritage' oak framed double garage with studio above and adjoining workshop and the circular dining pavilion by Breeze House seating 8/12 with a central table with overhead heating. This period, detached house is constructed of mainly stone elevations beneath a slated roof. It is situated to the edge of Wellow amidst agricultural land.

There are wonderful countryside and garden views, particularly from the first floor windows.

The Isle of Wight
The Isle of Wight, situated off the South Coast of England, is becoming an ever-more popular location for permanent and second homes. Made popular by Queen Victoria, who had her maritime residence at Osborne, the Island is famous for sailing in the Solent; for Cowes Week; for its beautiful coastline including sandy beaches and The Needles; spectacular countryside and long sunshine hours.  There are now many more facilities than once was the case, Waitrose, Sainsbury, Tesco and M&S all now have a presence as have other national chains. Communication and transport links are excellent; regular car ferries connect with the national motorway network and fast catamarans have connections via Southampton and Portsmouth to direct trains to London Waterloo which can be reached within 2 hours of leaving the Island shore. Government-funded schools are numerous and independent schools thrive on the Island with some children attending prep and public schools on the mainland. Leisure opportunities abound - walking, riding, paragliding, hang-gliding, team sports, sailing, wind surfing and other water sports, rugby, football (Newport Football Club) cricket and golf clubs. Good transport links enable day trips to the shopping centres of West Quay, Southampton and Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth.

Wellow
Wellow is a village located about two and a half miles east of Yarmouth in the northwest of the Island. The name is believed to be of Jutish origin. Located within Wellow are a small church, post office, vineyard and several farms. The Hamstead trail runs through Wellow, linking the Island’s north-west and south-west coasts.

Yarmouth
Yarmouth is a picturesque port situated at the western end of the Island on the beautiful River Yar estuary, a popular sailing and wildlife centre. The town has a long history, the castle being built by Henry VIII in 1547 as a coastal defence. Within the centre of the town there are shops, cafes, restaurants and traditional pubs and hotels. The local primary school, The Royal Solent Yacht Club, pier and harbour with its car ferry connection to Lymington (35 minutes) are all conveniently near by.
